Project Impact
Our project will transform 5G/NextG networks and autonomous vehicle (AV) applications by demonstrating the value of vertical-aware networks for remote and cooperative driving. This will enable innovative mobility services, make them more accessible—including for people with disabilities and the elderly—and drive new business models for network operators and equipment vendors. Future vehicles will evolve into “mobile devices on wheels,” supporting applications such as mobile offices and remote medical operations, while advancing connected and automated transportation for safer roads.
Broadening Access & Reproducibility
We will integrate our open-source networking and AV platforms with testbeds like POWDER and Mcity 2.0, and make all systems, datasets, and results publicly available to support research and innovation across other vertical use cases, including robotics and precision agriculture.
Education & Workforce Development
The project actively engages students and K–12 participants through research, tutorials, and outreach programs. Partnering with academic and industrial collaborators, we aim to broaden participation in computing and prepare the next-generation workforce in networking and autonomous systems.
